Qasr al-Kharranah is located northeast of the capital Amman, along the international road leading to Al-Azraq, and dates back to the Umayyad period.
The palace consists of two floors with a similar architectural layout. The ground floor contains a series of rooms and a hall with barrel-vaulted ceilings surrounding an open central courtyard, which has a rainwater collection reservoir at its center. In the southeast and southwest corners of the central courtyard, two stone staircases lead up to the second floor. The palace was used as a rest stop for caravans and travelers between the Levant and the Hijaz.
